Erfurt (dpa / th) - Anyone who owns a vehicle with a so-called keyless go system should store their car keys at home in a special box as a precaution.

This is the advice of the Erfurt police after several thefts of high-quality cars in Erfurt outskirts.

In the past few days alone, two cars with a total value of over 60,000 euros have been stolen.

Criminals had tried their luck with four other cars in the villages of Niedernissa, Dittelstedt and Windischholzhausen.

With Keyless Go equipment, a car opens automatically without actively using the key when you approach the car and carry the key with you.

According to the information, criminals use the long range of the key with special antennas to pick up their signal.

This ensures that cars can be opened without a trace, which makes it easier for them to be stolen.

"It is a well-known scam that occurs again and again in towns near the autobahn, usually over several weeks," said the Erfurt police.
