Hamburg (dpa / lno) - The Hamburg SPD politician Niels Annen has again been confirmed by his party as a candidate for the upcoming federal election.

97.7 percent of the 88 delegates voted for him by postal vote, the SPD announced on Friday in Hamburg.

Previously, he had given around 96 delegates their vote to Annen in the online voting at the digital nomination conference.

The result will now be formally confirmed with the subsequent postal vote.

His goal is now to win the direct mandate again in the election, said Annen, according to the announcement.

"I would like to do all I can in the German Bundestag to overcome the pandemic and its consequences."

The 47-year-old has been Minister of State in the Foreign Office for three years and has been a member of the Bundestag since 2013.

He was also a member of the Bundestag from 2005 to 2009.

In 2017, according to the SPD, Annen won the Hamburg-Eimsbüttel constituency directly with 31.6 percent of the first votes.
