Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The sirens will wail again across the country today as a test alarm.

In Düsseldorf, 81 sirens are checked for functionality, in Bonn there are 64. This is where the new automatic siren monitoring is tested for the first time.

It indicates faults in the individual sirens.

During the test alarm, an uninterrupted wailing tone sounds for one minute, which stands for "all clear" in an emergency.

Then the signal for "warning" is tested with a one-minute rising and falling wailing tone, which indicates a dangerous situation in the event of a real emergency.

Then the constant tone for "all clear" sounds again.

The warning app NINA (federal emergency information and news app) is also included in the test.

She is supposed to announce the test alarm around 10.45 a.m.

According to the decree of the Ministry of the Interior of North Rhine-Westphalia, the rehearsals of the warning sirens take place twice a year, on the second Thursday in March and September.
