His memory and his heritage are still very much present at the Council of Paris.

Claude Goasguen, former minister, deputy and mayor LR of the 16th arrondissement from 2008 to 2017 died in 2020. Baron of the Parisian right, opposing the PACS and marriage for all, he was particularly noted during a meeting against the installation of an emergency accommodation center in its borough.

In a surrealist atmosphere punctuated by insults, he denounced the "diktat" of the town hall of Paris.

Also known for his outings "we have a problem with the Maghreb people", he was very often opposed to the Parisian executive and more particularly to the housing deputy Ian Brossat (PCF), comparing him to "Comrade Jospeh", "Stalinist on is, Stalinist we stay ”, while qualifying in 2014 as“ poisonous ”.

But this Wednesday, the Council of Paris voted by majority for a place in honor of Claude Goasguen, after heated exchanges and insults from his old clan, the right of the 16th arrondissement.

Alice Coffin at the front

On behalf of the EELV group, the elected Alice Coffin opposed such a tribute "because of multiple behaviors and statements relating to racism, sexism, homophobia," classism "".

“I will not understand that the Council of Paris having knowledge of all these facts decides to name a place in its name.

It would be an insult, ”she added.

The LR mayor of the 16th arrondissement Francis Szpiner then in the pure line of his predecessor accused the feminist and LGBT rights activist of "spitting on the memory of Claude Goasguen" and quoted the poet René Char: "There is a kind of man who are always ahead of their feces ”.

Fatoumata Koné, president of the EELV group, accused Francis Szpiner of being "insulting", asking for an apology as well as a public ballot and an interruption of the session.

"I persist and sign," replied Francis Szpiner.

"It is you who are insulting"

"It is you who are insulting", replied Aurélie Pirillo, elected LR who had previously praised Claude Goasguen, "a man of value", "very open-minded" but who "like any man of convictions , could be divisive ”.

The deliberation was adopted by 82 votes in favor, including that of the mayor Anne Hidalgo and his deputy Patrick Bloche who chaired the meeting, 34 against and 2 abstentions.

And 45 absent.

"A great astonishment to realize that so many elected Paris in Common had a swimming pool at the time of the vote," lamented Fatoumata Koné on Twitter.

“We rarely agreed, but I had a deep respect for him.

I liked his strong personality, his outspokenness, his devastating humor.

I send in my name, and on behalf of Parisians, all my condolences to his two children, his family and his loved ones, ”said Anne Hidalgo upon her death.

The future Place Claude-Goasguen will be located in the La Muette district, in the heart of the 16th arrondissement.

The PCF deputy in memory, Laurence Patrice, supported the tribute to "an elected Republican, where he was mayor", and stressed that this name "had not been discussed" during its passage in committee.
