China News Service, Chongqing, March 11th, title: Jiang Cheng, the battle hero of Shangganling: Take off his military uniform and take root in the countryside for 36 years, and hide his fame and fame

China News Service reporter Zhong Yi

Jiang Cheng, the hero of the War to Resist US Aid Korea, is 93 years old.

He was dressed in a plain green military uniform, a hat with a five-pointed star on his head, and his old hand stroked the medal on his chest from time to time.

When the reporter greeted him, he tremblingly tried to raise his right hand and salute him.

This is the scene the reporter saw when interviewing Jiang Cheng in Hechuan District, Chongqing City.

In recent years, suffering from diseases, Jiang Cheng’s speech is no longer sharp, and his whole body trembles when he moves with the help of his family. But when others start to sing "The Battle Hymn of the Chinese People’s Volunteers", he can still sing clearly: Aung Ang, across the Yalu River..." Behind the singing is the blood and loyalty that Jiang Cheng remembers in his heart.

Jiang Cheng was born in 1928. At the age of 21, he joined the army amidst the gunfire of the liberation of Chengdu and became a soldier of the 1st Battalion of the 92nd Regiment of the 31st Division of the 11th Army.

After the outbreak of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea in October 1950, Jiang Cheng's troops were incorporated into the 12th Army of the Chinese People's Volunteers.

On March 21, 1951, Jiang Cheng, who was promoted to deputy squad leader of the cannon company, followed the team into the Korean war.

According to historical records, from April to November 1951, Jiang Cheng’s 12th Army participated in the Fifth Battle and the Jincheng Defense Operation for more than 400 battles, and severely damaged the Turkish brigade.

In the era of inconvenient communication and underdeveloped information, the family members in Chongqing did not know Jiang Cheng's life and death experience.

The younger brother Jiang Qipeng recalled that in 1955, his elder brother was demobilized and returned to his hometown of Guangfu Village, Longxing Town, Hechuan District, Chongqing City, with only some daily necessities and cloth tickets in his bag.

Jiang Cheng rarely mentioned his past to his family. After taking off his military uniform, he first devoted himself to the construction of local railways for 9 years.

After the railway was built, he returned to his home and continued to work in agriculture.

Jiang Cheng was selected by the Longxing Township Agricultural Technology Station to teach the sericulture technology to the masses for 24 years because he had a good technique for planting mulberry and raising silkworms.

In 1988, Hechuan organized to revise the county chronicles. When compiling the files, Wang Jueying, the editor, found a long-covered "Revolutionary Servicemen's Good News", which was jointly issued by the Chinese People's Volunteer Army Command and the Political Department in 1953.

The "Happy News" stated: "Comrade Jiang Cheng of your house made a contribution in the Battle of Shangganling. He has been approved to record first-class merit once. In addition to rewards based on merit, we hereby announce the good news." There is also a line on the back of the "Happy News": "By The eighth district returned, and no such person was found".

After many verifications, the owner of "Good News" is Jiang Cheng, who is buried in the countryside.

This year, at the age of 60, he is about to retire from a temporary job. It has been 36 years since the good news was issued.

At this point, everyone knows that there is a hero "hidden" by his side.

What left Jiang Cheng from the war was a scar about 6 cm in length on his right abdomen.

Today, the old man is unable to tell more details, but the text in the Good News for Meritorious Service records this history in detail: "In November 1952, in the battle of Shangganling, cooperated with the counterattack to defend the battle of 5377.07 highland. The comrade exerted a high degree of bravery and tenacious spirit, overcame numerous difficulties, led the class under strict enemy artillery blockade, mastered the technology proficiently, wiped out more than 400 enemies with heavy machine guns, and destroyed an enemy heavy machine gun. Suppressed the enemy’s firepower, blocked the enemy’s transportation road, shot down an enemy plane, was seriously injured and was reluctant to cross the line of fire, cooperated with the infantry to complete the task, and played a major role in the victory of the battle.

36 years of deep fame and fame, the hero who was once incomparably brave on the bloody battlefield did not reveal his glorious achievements to any first-level organization, nor did he find any first-level organization to make a request, even if it was a job arrangement, just as a farmer. He worked silently in his identity, and even borrowed personally to repair roads, leaving a "huge debt" for his son.

When the organization needed it, Jiang Cheng took the lead everywhere, vying for the first place in everything.

In 2014, the Guangfu Village where Jiang Cheng is located plans to develop an olive planting project. Jiang Cheng, who is 86 years old, cut his own grapefruit tree and was the first to transfer the family's land out, and he also took the initiative to call the villagers to start a mobilization meeting.

In only 3 days, the villagers agreed to the land transfer.

At present, Longxing Town has planted 30,000 mu of olive oil, which has become a key agricultural planting project in Hechuan District.

Nowadays, Jiang Cheng is arranged by the local government to live in an affordable housing in Hechuan City to facilitate the care of his children.

Speaking of the greatest "wealth" the father left to his children, the eldest son Jiang Renjun replied: "He said that we must be honest and do things down to earth."
