Hanover (dpa / lni) - Appointments for corona vaccinations for people over 70 years of age will start in Lower Saxony in the coming week.

Health minister Daniela Behrens (SPD) announced on Thursday that the approximately 700,000 people eligible for vaccination would be written to in the coming weeks.

In addition to a central cover letter, the municipalities are free to inform those affected themselves at the same time.

The hotline for making appointments has meanwhile been increased to 500 employees, and by the end of the month it should be 800.

The start of corona vaccinations via general practitioners should begin in Lower Saxony no later than April 19, said Behrens.

Doctors' practices should first vaccinate patients with previous illnesses and people who are no longer mobile and who are visited by the doctor at home.

It is also planned to involve company doctors in the vaccination campaign at a later date.
