Bad Salzuflen (dpa / lnw) - An employee of the motorway maintenance department rescued a small long-eared owl on Autobahn 2 near Bad Salzuflen (East Westphalia).

After a hint from a car driver, the road attendant found the frightened and lethargic animal on the edge of a road.

He carefully put the little owl in a cardboard box and brought it to the Herford zoo, Autobahn Westfalen announced on Thursday.

According to initial examinations, the owl is not injured, but needs to be nursed for a few days.

"After further training in traffic education," they could then be released again, it said.
