Munich (dpa / lby) - Bavaria's pharmacies have been able to offer free rapid corona tests for citizens without cold symptoms since Thursday.

Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) announced this in Munich and referred to the new general decree, which is the legal prerequisite for this.

The pharmacies were still missing this.

“In order to cope with the corona pandemic, it is crucial to test as comprehensively as possible in order to detect infections at an early stage and avoid infections.

We therefore need a large-scale and as low-threshold test offer as possible, "said the minister.

Antigen tests are now carried out in test centers, doctor's offices or pharmacies.

However, pharmacists are not obliged to offer the tests, emphasized Holetschek.

A result is usually available within 15 to 30 minutes.

If the test result is positive, those concerned must go to quarantine at home, according to the information.

The chairman of the Bavarian Pharmacists' Association, Hans-Peter Hubmann, said, “As far as we know, there are enough test kits on the market”.

Citizens should, however, continue to consider the known measures such as wearing a mask, keeping their distance, frequent hand washing, disinfecting and ventilation.
