Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The Rhineland-Palatinate Greens presented an action plan on family policy on Thursday that is intended to counteract the negative effects of the Corona situation on children and young people.

"The consequences of the crisis threaten to exacerbate inequality in educational opportunities," said Family Minister and Green top candidate Anne Spiegel.

"With the family plan for the future, we want to improve the learning conditions at schools and enable better individual support."

"Even in the crisis, we do not want to accept that families and children slide into poverty and have to live in poverty," says the plan.

A doubling of the funds for school social work is proposed - this has also been demanded by the CDU.

The SPD's electoral program aims to create “a comprehensive network of school social work for all types of schools”.

In addition to expanding the range of all-day schools, “common orientation levels from grammar schools and Realschulen Plus” are encouraged, “so that the school career decision can better take individual learning development into account”.

With a view to the risk of poverty for families, the demand for the introduction of comprehensive basic child protection is reiterated.

This is intended to replace child benefit, child allowance, child allowance, benefits from the education and participation package and SGB II benefits for children and young people.

The plan provides for "an additional Corona-U examination" so that stress and developmental risks for children under 14 are identified at an early stage.

In addition to the established examinations by paediatricians, which start immediately after the birth, this is intended to prevent negative health consequences due to the lack of social contact.
