Balve (dpa / lnw) - An attentive man may have saved the life of an injured eagle owl in Balve in the Sauerland.

The man called the police and directed the traffic past the animal sitting on the federal road 229 on Wednesday until the patrol car arrived.

"The fluffed night bird with the injured eye was doing badly," said a police spokesman on Thursday morning.

After consulting with experts, the officers picked up the bird of prey with a blanket and took it to a falconry in Menden.

There the male is now being treated by a veterinarian.
