Dresden (dpa) - The city of Dresden has banned the "lateral thinking" demonstrations against Corona requirements planned for Saturday in the center.

The rallies and the accompanying journeys from Saxony and neighboring federal states would run counter to the "protective purpose of all corona protection ordinances," said the city as the assembly authority.

The applicant has not been able to refute any concerns about infection protection law.

The organizers announced legal action.

According to the city, the initiative “lateral thinking 351” - the telephone code for Dresden - initially announced a gathering of 3,000 people on the Königsufer in mid-February.

Later, the forecast for the number of participants was increased to 5000 and an application was made for an exemption for the maximum limit of 1000 participants anchored in Saxony's Corona Protection Ordinance.

In response to the rejection, two more rallies with 1000 people each for the Altmarkt and the Cockerwiese were displayed on Wednesday, it said.

"The assembly authority had to conclude from this that the organizer is unable and unwilling to influence its mobilization and the associated influx of thousands of participants from areas of high incidence and mutation to Dresden," it said.

In the past 48 hours, several car corsos for Saturday through Dresden had been reported.

In addition, a bus company throughout Germany is offering trips to the rally in Dresden for this day.

The initiative “lateral thinking 351” announced legal action against the ban on request.

Spokesman Marcus Fuchs described it as "bottomless cheek".

Many proposals and compromises have been made to enable peaceful and safe protest.

As evidence, he named among other things the division of the rally into two places on both sides of the Elbe.

The argument that a bus operator wants to bring people to Dresden is not true.

Only three people reported to him.

"Lateral thinking 351" asked for a cancellation of the trips already booked and a withdrawal of the offer, said Fuchs.

There is no nationwide mobilization because “lateral thinking” rallies have been registered for Saturday in all state capitals.

Last Saturday, a corona protest in Leipzig received less support than assumed.

“Lateral thinking 351” organized a first large corona demo in Dresden on November 1, 2020, to which several thousand people flocked to the Theaterplatz.

Many did not wear a protective mask, hundreds presented certificates or certificates that relied on an exemption from the mask requirement, the police said at the time.

A rally planned for December 12th in Dresden was banned by the city and also forbidden by the courts.
