"I got vaccinated on Tuesday, the same day I received the report from the relatives of the non-commissioned officer of the Navy Stefano Paternò, who died a few hours after the vaccine. And I invite everyone to get vaccinated, it is very important".

Gaetano Bono, the Syracuse prosecutor who coordinates the investigation into the death of the soldier on March 9, told Adnkronos.

"That day - he says - I received the complaint from the wife of the non-commissioned officer Stefano Paternò. They told me that their relative had felt ill after the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine and that he was dead. I immediately gave urgent instructions for the investigation. of which I went to get the vaccine. I knew perfectly well that I had taken AstraZeneca and despite this I did. I have had common side effects such as fever and fatigue as well as joint pain. Now I'm fine, I didn't have any contraindications ".

And he adds: "The important thing is that we must have faith in the vaccination campaign, it is the only way we have to get out of covid. We must not forget the damage it is having on public health and also on the economy. We must be vaccinated, vaccines are sure, there have been no indications to the contrary, and this survey shows that there is attention from the state ".

Then he stresses that "nowhere so far has there been any evidence of direct correlation between the vaccine and the death of the non-commissioned officer, if not the chronological data, there should be no doubts about the vaccination campaign.

"At this stage we are trying to understand what happened without excluding anything as we always do - adds the prosecutor Bono who coordinates the investigation with the Prosecutor Sabrina Gambino - We investigate at 360 degrees trying to grasp all possible responsibilities".

"Since we have to do the autoipsia, we are waiting to see which people can be investigated, I am waiting to see the list to understand whether to register in the register of suspects to then give the suspects the possibility to participate in the autopsy".

And he underlines: "Human error cannot also be excluded, occasionally a mistake in the administration, or a mistake at various levels of responsibility. Leaving forward is wrong, they must not be done. As a precaution it was decided to seize all the suspicious batches to avoid that a single person could suffer serious damage, as we do not know it must be done as a precaution ".
