Mainz (dpa / lrs) - Of the around 360,000 people in Rhineland-Palatinate between 70 and 79 years of age, one in three registered for a corona vaccination on the first day.

"Within just one day, more than 120,000 people in this group registered for upcoming vaccination appointments using the online form or the telephone hotline," said the Ministry of Health on Thursday, the second day of registration.

"The systems have withstood the great rush very stable and reliable, so that a lot of Rhineland-Palatinate people could easily and easily register for their vaccination appointments," said state vaccination coordinator Alexander Wilhelm (SPD).

A total of 302,433 people in Rhineland-Palatinate received a first corona vaccination up to and including Wednesday.

There were also more than 143,000 second vaccinations.

Rhineland-Palatinate remains in the top group of federal states when it comes to vaccinations and, with vaccination rates of 7.4 percent for first vaccinations and 3.5 percent for second vaccinations, is above the national average.
