A spokesman for the ruling Burma junta said on Thursday that the former minister in charge of the Yangon region, Phyo Min Thein, now in prison, admitted to giving the former head of the civilian government of the 'silver and gold.

“We learned that Aung San Suu Kyi herself took these US $ 600,000 and seven gold screws (11.2 kilograms).

The anti-corruption commission has launched an investigation, ”the military junta's chief information officer, Zaw Min Tun, said at a rare press conference in Naypyidaw, the administrative capital.

The latter did not specify what he would have obtained in exchange.

Aung San Suu Kyi already indicted earlier this month
