Munich (dpa / lby) - Bavaria's Catholic bishops are calling not to deport refugees in the Corona crisis.

"In times of the pandemic, deportations are irresponsible from a humanitarian point of view," said a statement by the Freising Bishops' Conference published on Thursday in Munich after their spring plenary meeting, which took place via video conference because of the pandemic.

"For these reasons, the Bavarian bishops are calling on those responsible for politics to suspend deportations until further notice."

The Oberhirten see the following reasons: “On the one hand, the countries to which people are deported are, at best, emerging countries, but mostly developing countries, which are affected by the effects of the pandemic to a much greater extent than Germany.

This applies to the economy as well as the health system. "

The distribution of vaccines against the corona virus is "still a long way off" in countries like Afghanistan.

It is irresponsible “if these states are burdened even further by the deportation of refugees”, write the bishops.

"In addition, in times of border closings and controls, unnecessary passenger traffic should be avoided because of the spread of mutants."
