Berlin (dpa / bb) - Online poker, sports betting in digital rooms or virtual roulette tables on the Internet will soon be allowed in Berlin.

The House of Representatives approved the new State Treaty on Gaming on Thursday, which is intended to ensure uniform regulations throughout Germany.

Among other things, it stipulates that online poker or online casinos will be permitted in the future.

So far, such online games of chance have been banned in large parts of the country except Schleswig-Holstein.

Wagering limits and restrictions on advertising are intended to regulate future online games.

The minister-presidents of the federal states fundamentally approved the treaty in mid-March last year.

In order for it to come into force, however, it must also be discussed in the individual state parliaments and ratified by them.

It is planned that the new contract will apply from July 1, 2021 - at least 13 state parliaments must approve.

Then a transnational authority to supervise gambling, especially on the Internet, is to be established.

It will have its seat in Saxony-Anhalt.
