Mainz (dpa / lrs) - Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) has promised further help to companies suffering from the corona crisis.

With a hardship fund, each half financed by the federal and state governments, it will ensure that “companies that are affected also receive compensation in the end,” said Dreyer on Thursday evening in the SWR television debate on the state election.

CDU challenger Christian Baldauf, however, told the state not to do enough: "The federal government has made 60 times as much funds available for aid as the state of Rhineland-Palatinate".

Baldauf reiterated his call for a program to introduce entrepreneurial wages.

The State Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Daniela Schmitt (FDP), responded with a view to the Federal Ministry of Economics that it was “shocking for companies that payments of the discounts have now been suspended”.

In the supplementary budget, the state provided targeted millions in aid for tourism and inner-city retail.
