Mainz (dpa / lrs) - The CDU top candidate for the state election, Christian Baldauf, has spoken out in favor of coupling openings in lockdown more to tests than to the number of new corona infections.

"We can't close everything again now," he said on Thursday evening during a discussion of the top candidates for the state elections on SWR television with a view to the increasing incidence.

"We have to test, test, test."

Even choirs should be able to sing again after negative tests and open the outdoor catering again.

Bavaria has so far procured 100 million tests, but Rhineland-Palatinate only 4 million.

He sees some catching up to do.

Prime Minister Malu Dreyer (SPD) announced that outdoor catering will be able to reopen on March 22nd and that she will work with the Chancellor to promote a perspective of the hotel industry at the next video session between the Prime Minister and the Chancellor.

This was not yet successful at the last meeting.

She accused Baldauf of not having a clear plan in the pandemic and of invoking a new situation every day.

The leading candidate of the Free Voters, Joachim Streit, spoke out in favor of reopening all industries "that have a good hygiene concept" because the health system is now stable after the vaccinations of the particularly vulnerable (injured) people.

He would never have closed the outdoor restaurants, the zoos and the holiday apartments anyway, stressed Streit.
