Hanover (dpa / lni) - With the same scam as about five weeks ago, thieves broke into a jewelry store in Hanover's central shopping mile.

The strangers drove a previously stolen car backwards into the shop and stole jewelry and watches, a police spokesman said on Thursday.

In the early morning shortly before 4:00 a.m., an alarm was triggered at a security company.

When the police arrived at the scene a little later, according to the spokesman, there was no trace of the perpetrators.

The thieves left the car behind; the keeper only found out from the police that it had been stolen during the night.

According to previous investigations, the criminals fled after the break-in in an SUV.

The officials were initially unable to provide any information on the extent of the loot.

The search for clues in the property is still ongoing, said the spokesman.

The investigators are now hoping for evidence of witnesses.

In the early morning of February 2, just 150 meters away in Hanover's city center, another jeweler was attacked according to a "very similar principle", according to the police.

In this case, too, the unknown perpetrators used a recently stolen car.
