Berlin (dpa) - Almost a quarter of Germans want Jürgen Klopp to succeed national coach Joachim Löw.

This was the result of a representative survey by the opinion research institute YouGov.

24 percent of the 1618 people surveyed said the coach of Liverpool FC as a preferred candidate, nine percent named Löw's former assistant Hansi Flick from FC Bayern.

Four percent would like to see U21 national coach Stefan Kuntz as the new national coach after the EM this summer, three percent Julian Nagelsmann (RB Leipzig) and two percent Thomas Tuchel (FC Chelsea).

Almost half of the respondents gave no answer.

Only one percent was for a trainer from abroad, and six percent were for “another German trainer”.

After Löw's announcement of his resignation on Tuesday, Klopp had already confirmed several times that he would not be available in the summer and referred to his contract until 2024.

Most recently, the former coach of FSV Mainz 05 and Borussia Dortmund suggested Ralf Rangnick.

«That would be my first solution.

Fortunately, he still has time, ”said the 53-year-old at Sky.

The majority of those questioned welcomed Löw's decision.

37 percent of the 1618 people aged 18 and over said it was a good decision.

19 percent were of the opinion that Löw should have stopped long ago.

Only nine percent said that Löw should have fulfilled his contract until after the World Cup in 2022.

35 percent did not provide any information.
