Rostock (dpa / mv) - Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has made up ground in the bicycle travel analysis of the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC).

In the ranking published on Thursday, the Baltic Sea Cycle Route landed in third place behind the Elbe and Weser Cycle Paths.

That was a rank better than last year.

Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania made an even bigger leap as a cycling holiday destination overall.

It even climbed three places to second place - behind Bavaria and ahead of Lower Saxony.

The managing director of the regional tourism association, Tobias Woitendorf, was satisfied that the country with its scenic attractions can also set accents for cyclists.

The good rankings should not hide the fact that the cycle path infrastructure in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania still has considerable potential for expansion.

This also applies to the Baltic Sea Cycle Route, which is only available as a provisional over a field between Nienhagen and Börgerende after the cliff has been demolished.
