Mainz (dpa / lrs) - According to the decision of the conference of health ministers in April, Rhineland-Palatinate is guaranteed to receive 110,000 vaccine doses per week.

Health Minister Sabine Bätzing-Lichtenthäler (SPD) announced on Thursday.

"This enables us to plan well and guarantee all vaccination appointments that have already been made."

The vaccine is to be distributed to the vaccination centers and the mobile vaccination teams.

"Deliveries beyond that will go to the doctor's offices in the country as planned in the decision," said the minister.

The vaccinations in the doctor's offices are to complement the work of the vaccination centers in April.

“Both run in parallel,” clarified the Minister.

In a next step, consideration will also be given to involving company doctors.

After three hours of deliberations, the health ministers agreed on Wednesday the 16th calendar week (April 19th to 25th) or earlier - “should the manufacturer's deliveries still to be specified for April” - as the date for the start of vaccinations in the general practitioners' practices.

The spokesman for the federal government, Steffen Seibert, announced that Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the state ministers would decide on the recommendations of the conference of health ministers as soon as possible.

The FDP top candidate for the state elections, Daniela Schmitt, said vaccinations via general practitioners could be a “real turnaround” in the fight against Corona.

It is therefore “bitter” that the delivery of vaccines to general practitioners is delayed because not enough vaccine is available.

"We have to vaccinate more and with the support of our family doctors we can succeed," said the State Secretary for Economic Affairs.

In the opinion of the Green top candidate Anne Spiegel, the decision by Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) and the Conference of Health Ministers "again lost valuable time in order to vaccinate more people as quickly as possible".

The capacities of the vaccination centers alone were not sufficient to guarantee that the population was vaccinated quickly.

"The state must mobilize all forces to protect the population from the pandemic," demanded the family minister.
