Munich (dpa / lby) - In view of the changed vaccination strategy with broad involvement of doctors, the capacities of the Bavarian vaccination centers are obviously not being expanded as planned.

The city of Munich announced on Wednesday that it had to stop the construction of further vaccination centers.

"It is extremely difficult for us as the health department to implement plans when the federal and state vaccination strategy changes so quickly and unpredictably on this issue, which is vital to us all," said Munich health officer Beatrix Zurek.

After the announcement by the Ministry of Health that Munich would receive around 13,000 vaccine doses a day from April onwards, great efforts had been made to expand the vaccination capacity in the fair to 6,000 daily vaccinations.

At the same time, the prerequisites for further vaccination centers with 7000 vaccinations daily have been created.

“All of this in accordance with the state's statements that the vaccination centers are an essential part of the Bavarian vaccination strategy.

Today the change of heart, which was very surprising for all of us, was that the capacities in the vaccination centers should not be expanded and that the vaccinations should be carried out mainly by general practitioners ”, said Zurek.

First, the “Münchner Merkur” (Thursday), citing a letter from the Bavarian District Association, reported that in view of the planned widespread involvement of doctors in the corona vaccinations, the capacities of the vaccination centers may not be expanded as planned.

In all likelihood, the expansion should no longer be pursued, it says.

It is recommended not to plan any further expansions.

So far, the plan was to increase the vaccination options in the centers from a maximum of 49,000 per day to 110,000 by April.

In the meantime, however, the federal and state governments have decided that doctors will be included in the vaccination system on a broad front - although the amount of vaccine will continue to be limited.

Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and the heads of government of the federal states are to decide on the start of the practice, “promptly” before the next federal-state consultations on March 22nd.

The health ministers should submit a recommendation for this.

The deliberations of the Conference of Health Ministers (GMK) on the involvement of general practitioners in the corona vaccination strategy continued on Wednesday evening.

Bavaria's Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) told the “Münchner Merkur”: “The increase in vaccination capacities in the vaccination centers clearly demanded by the federal government, we in Bavaria have flexibly planned with those responsible on site and will certainly benefit from this in areas with a not so high practice density continue to benefit. "

The centers are currently the “backbone of the vaccination strategy”.

Nevertheless, it is right to get the doctor's offices into the system as soon as possible.
