The Lebanese army removes roadblocks closed due to the protests

The Lebanese army began removing roadblocks after protesters burned tires for a week to block roads across the country amid a wave of anger at the economic meltdown and political stalemate.

The Lebanese army said, in a statement on its official page on Twitter: "As a result of the tragic accidents and violations that took place, and in order to preserve the safety of citizens, the army units began this morning to open closed roads," according to Reuters.

Lebanese President Michel Aoun asked the army and security forces to remove the roadblocks after his meeting with senior officials on Monday.

The financial crisis in Lebanon, which broke out in late 2019, caused many people to lose their jobs, people were unable to withdraw from their bank deposits, and many people fell into poverty and hunger.
