Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said that it is necessary for the international community to have a firm stand to stop the continued flow of weapons to the Houthi militia and prevent the export of weapons to Yemen, as this is a violation of United Nations resolutions, and stresses that the arms embargo must be extended to Iran.

He continued, "We have witnessed widespread condemnation of the recent attempt on facilities in Ras Tanura, and a strong stance on the part of the international community that parallels the gravity of the attack that comes not only against the Kingdom but also on the global economic system."

He added, "Such attacks require a strong stand by the international community in confronting the perpetrators, and concerted efforts must be made to stop the sources of the continuation of the conflict, the most important of which is Iran's supplying the Houthi militias with advanced weapons, including ballistic missiles and explosive UAVs."

The Saudi Foreign Minister reiterated the Kingdom's support to reach a political solution to the crisis in Yemen, explaining that the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement and the formation of the new Yemeni government is an important step in opening the way to an integrated political solution to the crisis, and he also affirmed the Kingdom's support for the efforts of the UN envoy Martin Griffiths to reach a comprehensive halt. He stressed that the Kingdom supports international efforts aimed at ensuring that Iran does not develop nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles, and to make the Gulf region free of all weapons of mass destruction, and to respect the independence and sovereignty of states and not to interfere in their internal affairs.

For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister stressed that the recent attack by the Houthis on Saudi oil facilities is unacceptable, and said: “We and our Saudi friends are concerned about developments in Yemen, where more than two-thirds of the population needs urgent assistance as a result of the conflict that has been going on for nearly six years.

We are united in that it is not possible to save the country from descending into chaos and humanitarian catastrophe, except by stopping the fighting as soon as possible and settling the many tangible problems and disagreements that exist around the negotiating table.

In this regard, Lavrov expressed Moscow's support for the efforts of the UN special envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths.
