Hanover (dpa / lni) - The question of how intensively farmers are allowed to fertilize their areas is a constant controversial topic in Lower Saxony - the state is presenting the latest figures in the current nutrient report this Wednesday morning.

It shows, among other things, how much liquid manure, solid manure and fermentation residues occur in the individual districts and how high the regional pollution with nitrate and phosphorus are.

Agriculture Minister Barbara Otte-Kinast (CDU) and the President of the Chamber of Agriculture Gerhard Schwetje present the data.

The dispute over the tightened fertilizer law has repeatedly provoked farmers to protest actions with their tractors in recent months.

The rural people also supported a lawsuit brought by farmers before the Lüneburg Higher Administrative Court last year.

The stricter rules, which provide for a general reduction in fertilization by 20 percent in particularly heavily polluted areas, have been heavily criticized by farmers.

They fear lower yields.
