Gelsenkirchen (dpa / lnw) - After a fight on the escalator of a subway station in Gelsenkirchen, a homicide squad is investigating.

The public prosecutor in Essen and the Gelsenkirchen police announced on Wednesday evening that the suspicion of an attempted homicide was being investigated.

In the "physical confrontation between three Gelsenkircheners" in the Schalke district, one of the men involved was seriously injured in the afternoon.

Two men aged 48 and 52 are said to have hit the 43-year-old.

He then fell down the escalator.

The two older ones would have stepped on the man lying on the ground.

The 43-year-old was taken to hospital for inpatient treatment.

The investigators said the background has not yet been conclusively clarified.

Police officers had temporarily arrested the two alleged perpetrators.
