March 10, 2021-In Italy, the occupation of beds in intensive care by Covid patients returns to exceed the critical threshold of 30%.

This is what emerges from the monitoring carried out by Agenas (National Agency for Regional Health Services) updated on 9 March.

At the national level, the intensive care units occupied by Sars-Cov-2 positive people now reach 31%, exceeding the level beyond which it is difficult to adequately assist other non-Covid patients.

Compared to the data of March 1st, growth was strong (+ 6%): from 25% to 31%.

According to the monitoring published online by Agenas, there are 11 regions that exceed the critical threshold of 30%: Abruzzo (41%), Emilia Romagna (40%), Friuli Venezia Giulia (34%), Lombardy (43%), Marche ( 44%), Molise (67%), Autonomous Province of Bolzano (39%), Autonomous Province of Trento (54%), Piedmont (36%), Tuscany (36%), Umbria (57%).

The number of beds in the infectious disease, general medicine and pulmonology wards occupied by Covid patients is also growing.

In this case, the national value reaches 35%, or + 5% compared to March 1, but still below the critical threshold, defined as 40%.

In particular, it is surpassed by 7 regions: Abruzzo (45%), Emilia Romagna (47%), Lombardy (46%), Marche (54%), Molise (45%), Piedmont (42%) and Umbria (51%) .

Covid: Ausl Bologna, anesthetists and nurses are lacking 'Functioning hospitals, but there is a staff problem'

"Fortunately we have functional hospitals", but there is a staff problem: "We have implemented a lot of all the hiring, including the trainees "but it is not enough.

"There are no anesthetists, we would need another twenty. We would also need about forty nurses" and "we have problems recruiting Oss with fixed-term contracts".

Paolo Bordon, general manager of the company usl Bologna, says this to ANSA.

In addition to Covid, "we must maintain the guaranteed urgency activity", which absorbs beds in intensive care, "but the theme is the staff".

"This is why - explains Bordon - we have chosen to concentrate" for now "the Covid cases on only two intensive care facilities, which are like Ausl, the Ospedale Maggiore in Bologna and the hospital in Bentivoglio", converted into Covid hospital since yesterday .

In addition, in Bologna there is the intensive care of the Sant'Orsola Polyclinic.

"This optimizes the maximum presence of anesthesiologists".

The difficulty is also to recruit for an indefinite period candidates from other regions, for example.

Of the competition for 7,500 nurses closed in early December, Bordon points out, for permanent positions "we find it difficult to get hires accepted: out of 519 candidates called, only 342 accepted, 70 have to think about it. For temporary hires , 36 months, we called 367 candidates and they accepted in 44 "
