Munich (dpa / lby) - For the second year in a row, the Nuremberg open-air festival "Rock im Park" is canceled due to the corona pandemic.

The organizer network Eventim Live canceled seven major festivals in Germany and Switzerland on Wednesday, including “Rock am Ring”, the “Hurricane Festival” and “Southside”.

The reason given was: "The organizers had to decide to cancel due to the uncertain infection situation that still persisted."

Instead, all ticket holders could easily visit the 2022 festivals.

There were already long faces in the festival scene last year: the twin festivals “Rock am Ring” and “Rock im Park” were canceled just for the big anniversary edition.

It should have been the 35th mass spectacle in the Eifel and the 25th on the Nuremberg Zeppelin Field.

The headliners of the anniversary party should include Green Day, Volbeat and System Of A Down.

The organizers quickly rescheduled the number of stars to the new edition, which was scheduled for June 11th to 13th, 2021.

More than 130,000 people exchanged their tickets from 2020 to 2021. But the big party will not come of this year either.

Other popular festivals in the Free State were also canceled - with serious financial consequences for the organizers.

While these are partly compensated for their failures by insurance, it hits some professional groups particularly hard - for example the roadies who set up the stages and usually ensure that tens of thousands of party-goers have fun behind the scenes.

Sound engineers, lighting technicians, caterers and bus drivers are also painfully noticing the elimination of the festivals in their finances.
