Despite particularly high indicators, Île-de-France continues to escape new restrictions in the face of Covid-19.

A situation that generates incomprehension and annoyance in areas placed in confinement on weekends, in particular the coast of the Alpes-Maritimes, where the measure has just been extended.

REPORT

The government continues to opt for the status quo.

The health defense council held on Wednesday morning did not result in new local confinements, even as the monitoring figures for the Covid-19 epidemic continue to climb in some regions.

This is particularly the case in Île-de-France, where the critical threshold has been reached in intensive care, with more than 1,000 patients.

"Medical evacuations" are also planned in the coming days.

This situation causes misunderstanding, especially in areas placed in confinement on weekends.

"That's enough"

Thus, the inhabitants of the coast of the Alpes-Maritimes, who learned this Wednesday that they were going to have to remain confined for at least an additional weekend, denounce a double standard, despite the territorial particularities of the Island- de-France explains this difference.

"There is the capital and the rest of France. It's getting a little tiring", laments a Nice man interviewed by Europe 1. In the streets of the Riviera city, we do not hide our weariness after weeks with no other horizon than the job.

"Let them confine Paris! Now, there are enough", annoys another local resident.

“Apart from working, we are not allowed to have anything else,” she adds.

A daily mixing of the population difficult to contain

Several reasons put forward by the government explain the absence of new restrictions for Ile-de-France residents.

The first is that many inhabitants of the region practice commuting, that is to say to move from one department to another, to get from their home to their place of work, or pick up the children from school.

In this context, extending the curfew or confining it to a single department would not prevent the mixing of the population.

This would require extending the curfew or establishing confinement to the entire region.

Greater hospital capacity

Hospital capacities are also taken into account.

In the Alpes-Maritimes, the occupancy rate of intensive care beds has exceeded 100%.

In Île-de-France, if the symbolic threshold of 1,000 patients in shifts has been crossed, the region, which has a larger number of hospitals, can mobilize new beds much more easily.

The gauge will also be raised to 1,577 resuscitation beds in Île-de-France next week thanks to the deprogramming of certain care, said Aurélien Rousseau, director of the ARS (Regional Health Agency).

Finally, there is the economic question: Ile-de-France alone represents a third of the country's economy.

Today, the government is also trying to preserve this lung.
