"Had these laws existed then Esmeralda would have lived today"

Melinda Jacobs was Esmeralda's foster mother until she returned to her biological parents in Norrköping almost a year before her death.

Since Esmeralda's death, she has been a strong voice for the law to be strengthened.

To SVT Nyheter Öst, she says that she views positively the proposals that the government's investigator Charlotte Lönnheim presented on Wednesday.

- I can feel that it actually provides some form of redress for Esmeralda, she says.

The proposals will now be submitted for consultation.
