Hamburg (dpa) - The IG Metall coast starts today in its second warning strike week in the north German metal and electrical industry.

In total, several thousand employees from 13 companies are called to brief work stoppages, as the union announced.

The main focus of the warning strikes is Rostock, where employees should take part in a car parade (12.30 p.m.) and a central rally (1 p.m.) at the city harbor.

The head of the IG Metall coast division, Daniel Friedrich, and the executive board member of IG Metall, Irene Schulz, are expected as speakers.

According to the information, crane manufacturer Liebherr, metal construction company EEW, Neptun shipyard, Caterpillar Motoren, machine parts manufacturer ZF Group and Ingenieurtechnik Maschinenbau are affected by the warning strikes in Rostock.

In addition, work stoppages are planned at Hauni Maschinenbau in Hamburg, Hauni Primary and Universelle in Schwarzenbek, Herose in Bad Oldesloe, August Brötje space heating systems in Ape and Leoni Special Cables in Friesoythe and Hebold System in Cuxhaven.

The union is demanding a package for around 140,000 metal workers in north-west Lower Saxony, Hamburg, Bremen, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which provides for a twelve-month increase of four percent for wage increases and measures to secure jobs and locations.

The employers' side has so far rejected higher wages in view of the Corona crisis this year, instead proposing a “mix of one-time payment and table increase from 2022” in four rounds of negotiations, as in North Rhine-Westphalia.
