Former US President Donald Trump returned to New York on Sunday night, for his first visit to the former real estate mogul to his hometown since he left the White House on January 20, during which it appeared that he wanted to stay out of sight.

Since the end of his term, Trump has moved to his resort in Maralago, Florida, but has nonetheless kept his former three-story residence at the top of his tower on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, New York.

Late Sunday night, Trump arrived at his tower, far from the lenses of photographers, but the New York Post published a picture in which he appeared near his tower in a car while waving his left hand from the back seat.

As the news of his arrival spread at noon on Monday, about 20 supporters of the former president gathered in front of the tower amid heavy security deployment.

We love Trump

Some demonstrators raised a banner reading "We love Trump", while others raised a giant flag with the slogan "Trump 2024".

Dionne Sene, one of the demonstration organizers, told Agence France-Presse that "for two weeks, Trump has been teasing us" about whether or not he will run in the next presidential elections in 2024.

He added, wearing a hat with the Trump campaign slogan on and keeping his eyes pointed at the top of the tower, hoping that the former president or one of his sons would hint, "Enough joking, let's be serious: We want him to be a candidate in 2024, we want him to take over for two terms."

Mystery still surrounds the reasons for the former real estate mogul's return to New York, as no official announcement has been made regarding this visit, its duration, or its program.

The Secret Service, responsible for protecting the former presidents, refused to provide any information.

Opponents of the former president took to social networks to express their position on him.

Some of them expressed their hope that during his stay in New York, Trump would face problems with justice, especially that the Attorney General of Manhattan and the Attorney General of New York State are conducting separate investigations into suspicions of his involvement in bank, tax and insurance fraud.

Legal battle

And at the end of February, Manhattan's attorney general announced that at the end of a long legal battle he had obtained eight-year Trump tax returns, which the former president had been refusing to hand over.

But it is not clear to this day when the investigation will end or whether or not it will lead to an indictment against Trump.

This comes at a time when the US Supreme Court refused, on Monday, to consider the last of three cases that Trump filed in a challenge to his loss in the elections, which puts an end to his judicial efforts to cling to power.

The court rejected without comment Trump's appeal against thousands of absentee votes in Wisconsin, a crucial state he lost to Democratic rival Joe Biden by more than 20,000 votes.

This was the last appeal filed by three to the Supreme Court shortly before the end of his presidency, but the court refused to consider them all.
