All of Pedro Sánchez's allies, including his junior partner in the Government, United We Can, have defended a non-legislative proposal aimed at guaranteeing all their own languages -the co-official languages plus Asturian and Aragonese- the same rights as Spanish, which which would mainly imply the obligation of its knowledge to all officials in their respective territories, to generalize its use in the official pages, promote its international recognition and put an end to the exclusive use of Castilian in state regulations and in those labeled.

The initiative defended by Bildu and supported by nine formations present in Congress depends on the vote of the PSOE that yesterday was striving to reach an agreement with its partners and thus avoid a new clash with them.

The Socialists presented an amendment to the proposal considering that it, in its original terms, borders on unconstitutionality.

The PSOE warned that if its amendment is not accepted, it will vote against the proposal on Thursday.

His deputy Marc Lamuà, assured that the text presented by independentistas and nationalists does not have legal framework and for its approval it would be necessary to proceed to constitutional reforms.

For the socialists "language cannot be a political throwing weapon" and they reproach their partners for trying to impregnate it with ideology.

The PSOE claims to be willing to promote the use, knowledge and recognition of all languages but disagrees with the intention of nationalism to make its proposal a "swallow it".

"They cannot ask us," Lamuà assured, "that we incur irresponsibility."

However, the Socialists were willing to negotiate with Bildu to try to reach an agreement.

His junior partner in the Government, United We Can, is determined to support the initiative with his vote.

His representative Joan Mena took advantage of his intervention to defend the right of self-determination and launch a clear warning to the socialist bench.

"There will be no majority in this Congress without the forces that defend the plurinationality of the State," he warned.

The PP as well as the PSOE presented amendments to the proposal.

The popular defended the protection of co-official languages but "without imposition."

They defend what they call a "cordial bilingualism without threats and without language wars" and reject what they consider an attempt to appropriate their own languages by nationalists and the violation of the rights of Spanish speakers in Catalonia.

"We are not supporters of its stale linguistic colonialism," defended its deputy Ana Belén Vázquez.

For UPN, the proposition is but a clear attempt to use the "diversity" argument to advance the path of "nation-building" pursued by secessionists.

Vox, for its part, took advantage of the debate to ask for the "outlawing" of Bildu.

For this party it is inconceivable that there are areas of the national territory in which it is not possible to study in Spanish.

In his opinion, Spanish should be compulsory and the rest of the languages, voluntary.

The proponents rejected the "linguistic nationalism of Spanish" and demanded an end to the "privileges" of Castilian.

"We want to exist and live in our languages," repeated the spokesmen for the forces signing the initiative.

For the PNV, it is Spanish that is used not only as a "throwing weapon, but also as a shield."

Ciudadanos flatly rejects that the proposal is in defense of freedom and multilingualism.

For the orange formation the initiative is a «hodgepodge» to attack the common language.

«Spanish annoys them, it annoys them because it is the pillar that we have in common as a country.

That is why they want to create parallel realities, "deputy Marta Martín accused.

Junts recalled that Spain recognizes in its "sacrosanct Constitution" recognizes its own languages, something that, in the opinion of this force, is breached.

"Do not be surprised," said his deputy Genís Boadella, "that every day there are more independentists."

For ERC, what the constitutional bloc is trying to do is "create an artificial nation."

Marta Rosique appealed directly to the PSOE to take a step forward against the linguistic discrimination that is established when Spanish is imposed on the rest of the languages.

Rosique demanded that Catalan be recognized as an official language of the European Union for which, in his opinion, it is enough for the Spanish State to request it.
