Hanover (dpa / lni) - There is a gap of 4.10 euros between the gross hourly earnings of women and men in Lower Saxony.

While women received an average of 17.62 euros per hour last year, men received 21.72 euros, as the State Office for Statistics announced on Tuesday.

The difference in earnings was 19 percent and was slightly above the national average of 18 percent.

The International Day of Action for Equal Pay for Women and Men (Equal Pay Day) is a reminder of the wage differences between women and men.

This day is intended to make the different pay symbolically visible and to show up to which day of the year women have arithmetically worked unpaid compared to men.

For Germany it was set for March 10th.

Structural differences between the sexes are essential for the difference in earnings.

Women work more often in sectors and professions with poorer pay and less often in management positions.

In addition, however, women earn less than men even with comparable qualifications, jobs and employment histories.
