March 09, 2021 The covid-19 vaccine made by Pfizer and BioNTech shows a high ability to neutralize the variants of the virus that initially emerged in Brazil, the United Kingdom and South Africa, according to a recent study cited by Bloomberg.

In particular, in experiments conducted in the laboratory, an "almost equivalent" level of neutralization was found for the so-called Brazilian and English variants, compared to the virus as it had originally appeared at the beginning of last year.

A "robust but inferior" efficacy is also observed for the South African variant, according to a letter sent to the New England Journal of Medicine.

The research - supported by Pfizer and BioNTech and carried out by scientists from the University of Texas - has yet to be validated by real data, but it provides further indications on the effectiveness of the vaccine compared to the variants.
