Berlin (dpa / bb) - Federal police forces searched the residential and business premises of a suspected smuggler in the Berlin district of Wilmersdorf.

Extensive evidence such as documents, storage media and letters of invitation were secured on Tuesday morning, the police said.

The 49-year-old alleged smuggler is said to have illegally brought 59 people to Germany.

Together with other, hitherto unknown perpetrators, he is said to have provided Iranian citizens with fraudulent Schengen visas and letters of invitation so that they could enter as alleged professional musicians via Berlin-Schönefeld Airport.

He is said to have asked for up to 15,000 euros for this.

The seized evidence will now be evaluated.
