The young Swiss Stefan Bissegger, 22, took the lead of Paris-Nice after his victory in the 3rd stage, a time trial run Tuesday in Gien (Loiret).

To win the stage, Bissegger beat French champion Rémi Cavagna by 83 hundredths of a second at the end of the 14.4 kilometers.

The Slovenian Primoz Roglic, first of the riders in the general classification, finished third in this time trial, 6 seconds behind the winner, ahead of the American Brandon McNulty, also 22 years old.

Bissegger, silver medalist at the 2019 World Cup, won for the first time at the WorldTour level, which he joined last year in the jersey of the EF Education team.

On Wednesday, the 4th stage will be run from Châlon-sur-Saône to Chiroubles, during a course of 187.5 kilometers, during which the competitors will climb Mont Brouilly twice, and which will end with an ascent of 7.3 kilometers (at 6%) in the Monts du Beaujolais.
