After questionable deals with corona masks, the Mannheim public prosecutor has initiated a review process against the previous CDU member of the Mannheim Bundestag, Nikolas Löbel.

The authority announced this to the “Mannheimer Morgen”.

In addition, several reports were received against Löbel, as a court spokesman for the German Press Agency confirmed.

It will now be checked whether there is sufficient initial suspicion to initiate investigative proceedings.

Löbel's company is said to have collected commissions of around 250,000 euros because it brokered purchase contracts for corona protective masks between a Baden-Württemberg supplier and two private companies in Heidelberg and Mannheim.

After heavy criticism, Löbel resigned from the CDU on Monday and immediately withdrew from parliament.

In addition to Löbel, the CSU MP Georg Nüßlein stumbled upon the mask affair.
