The result was eagerly awaited, as majority and opposition claimed victory.

The ruling party in Côte d'Ivoire finally obtained a majority in the legislative elections on Saturday with 137 seats out of 254 in the National Assembly, against 91 for the opposition parties, according to the results published Tuesday by the Independent Electoral Commission (CEI) .

Among the opposition parties, the coalition between the Democratic Party of Côte d'Ivoire (PDCI) and supporters of former President Laurent Gbagbo won 50 seats, the PDCI alone 23, and the pro-Gbagbo only 8, i.e. in total 81. The other opposition parties share 10 other seats, the independents obtaining 26.

Saturday's elections brought together, for the first time in ten years in Côte d'Ivoire, all the main political actors, giving hope for an appeasement of political life in a country with a recent history marked by strong tensions and electoral violence.

This victory of the RHDP should allow it to continue the policy of "reforms" of the Head of State, re-elected in October 2020 for a controversial third term.

His re-election with more than 94% of the vote, in a ballot boycotted by the opposition, was marked by violence throughout the electoral period, which left 87 dead.
