Rostock (dpa / mv) - The seven-day incidence of new corona infections has fallen slightly again in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

On Tuesday, the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lagus) in Rostock reported 62.5 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants nationwide within a week.

On Monday the incidence was 66.1.

The districts of Vorpommern-Rügen and Mecklenburg Lake District as well as the city of Rostock are under the important 50 mark.

The district of Northwest Mecklenburg is over 100.

There the value rose from 104.9 on Monday to 108.1.

The Lagus reported 206 new corona infections within 24 hours on Tuesday, 41 fewer than a week ago.

According to the information, 25,963 infections with the corona virus have been recorded in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since the start of the pandemic in spring 2020.

The number of registered deaths related to the coronavirus rose by 4 to 789. 22,962 people are considered recovered.

The number of corona patients treated in clinics is currently 259 - that's 4 more than the day before.

The number of corona patients in intensive care units is 51 - that is also 4 more.

According to Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD), more than 30 percent of all new infections in MV can now be traced back to the variants of the corona virus.

This means that Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is still below the national German average.

However, it is to be expected that the virus variant will continue to prevail.

The incidence value is now highest among 35 to 59 year olds, Schwesig said.

That is the group of working people who are also more active in the private sector.

In the elderly and, above all, in those over 80, the incidence has decreased significantly.

That is very positive and shows that the vaccinations are working.

For this reason, the number of Covid patients in the hospital and the number of new deaths is no longer that high.
