After Norway closed the border also for day and weekly commuters, the demands from many Swedish workers have been to prevent them from getting to their jobs since the border closed on 29 January.

Last week, the Norwegian government announced that compensation to the commuters concerned was underway and now a decision has been made by the government.

- The situation is very difficult for many foreigners who work in Norway and live in other countries.

Since the border closed on January 29, they have not had the opportunity to get to their jobs and many have not been paid, says Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg in a press release.

Reimbursed to 70 percent

The proposal means that the compensation shall be based on the same regulations as for sick pay.

The proposal means that workers receive compensation with 70 percent of the sickness benefit qualifying income.

- I am pleased that we have found a solution that can ease the situation for many of the Swedes who work in Norway, says Solberg who had a meeting with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven on Tuesday morning.

The possibility of compensation will apply as long as the entry ban exists.

The proposal must first be considered by the Storting before it can enter into force, something that will happen soon.
