Berlin (dpa / bb) - The trial against two alleged book thieves failed at the first attempt.

Because the two defendants - a 34-year-old and a 32-year-old woman - were absent without excuse, the Berlin-Tiergarten district court suspended the hearing on Tuesday and issued an arrest warrant for the suspects.

The accused are said to have either stolen books with a total value of almost 10,000 euros from various public libraries themselves or acquired them from third parties knowing where they came from in order to sell the stolen goods on the Internet at a profit to buyers in good faith.

The charges are of commercial theft or commercial stolen goods and commercial fraud.

35 offenses are charged between 2013 and 2018 - five of them of theft or, alternatively, stolen goods and 30 cases of sale.
