Cologne (dpa / lnw) - Due to corona-related cancellations, the Cologne fair is threatened with another high loss.
"Just because of the cancellations in the first half of the year, we expect a loss of 65 million euros in 2021," said trade fair boss Gerald Böse to the "Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger" (Tuesday).
In the best case scenario, the company will generate sales of EUR 250 million for the year as a whole.
Originally, the fair had targeted 500 million euros.
Before the pandemic, things looked great: in 2019, sales were 413 million euros and profits were 30 million euros.
In 2020, revenues then collapsed to 95 million euros and there was a loss of 115 million euros.
The trade fairs are among the industries hardest hit by the corona crisis.
Your events with physical presence were canceled in a row from March 2020.
At the moment, the Cologne trade fair is only getting some money into the till through a few digital events, and it has also rented one of its halls to the city of Cologne as a vaccination center.
For the second half of 2021, the company, which belongs to the city and state of North Rhine-Westphalia, expects trade fairs with a physical presence again.
