From November 1 to 12, the COP26 will be held in Glasgow.

Major change from

COP25

, the departure of Donald Trump means that the United States is back in the planetary fight against climate change.

For Joe Biden, the United States must lead

the global response to climate change

;

he appointed John Kerry the former presidential candidate and former foreign minister as special climate envoy.

John Kerry was this Tuesday March 9 in Brussels to meet the leaders of the European institutions.

The EU has set a target of reducing its greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030 (compared to 1990) and the US is due to announce its target next month.

According to John Kerry, the actions taken during the current decade will be decisive.

Joe Biden's special climate envoy has come to renew the transatlantic link broken on this chapter during Donald Trump's four years.

For John Kerry, the Euro-American partnership which was “

extraordinary

” during the

Paris Agreements

should be even stronger when we are eight months away from the Glasgow summit.

Above all, it is vital for the United States and Europe, respectively the second and third largest polluters on the planet, to agree on ambitious reductions in CO2 emissions to create a global ripple effect.

We are facing an extraordinary crisis, but it is also the greatest opportunity since perhaps the industrial revolution to build better.

And we have no better partner than our friends here in Europe and in the European Union;

it is important to align ourselves now, because no single country will solve this crisis on its own.

The Glasgow conference is our last major chance - our best hope - for the world to come together to build on the Paris Agreement which alone will not be enough

 , ”said John Kerry.

Europeans and Americans want to get in line of battle for the climate pre-summit that the United States is organizing on April 22.
