Halle (dpa / sa) - In the corona pandemic, dog breeders in Saxony-Anhalt can hardly meet the demand for dogs.

"The run on all breeds is enormous," said Roland Bebber, deputy chairman of the Association for German Dogs (VDH) in Saxony-Anhalt.

The breeders are bombarded with inquiries and the waiting times are long, says Bebber.

French bulldogs are currently particularly popular.

For such a dog you have to plan with costs of around 3000 euros, explained Bebber.

The association is critical of developments during the pandemic.

"There is a great risk that the shelters will fill up when normal living conditions return," said Bebber.

As soon as people go to work more often and the range of leisure activities increases, interest in the four-legged friends could quickly evaporate, Bebber fears.
