A terrible drama played out on the night from Monday to Tuesday in Sedan, in the Ardennes.

For a reason that is not yet determined, a fire broke out in the middle of the night in the stairwell of a small building in the city center.

More specifically, the fire would have started shortly after one in the morning on the ground floor, before spreading to the upper floors.

In total, a one-year-old infant and a woman in her 40s were killed.

Three people were taken to hospital.

Up to 11 machines and 59 firefighters were mobilized to control the fire, which was extinguished in the early morning on Tuesday.

One of the firefighters suffered heat stroke, which was not serious.

According to several testimonies from the neighborhood, reports

, explosions were heard, and it would not be the first time in the neighborhood.

Just like other fires in the area, especially in this building.

An investigation is obviously open.
