Rape and serious physical attacks against sex workers have increased in France, warns Médecins du monde on France 24 on the occasion of International Women's Rights Day.

The NGO, which helps them through the Jasmine program, has a reporting platform.

However, Médecins du Monde has observed an increase in violence since the 2016 law penalizing clients of prostitution.

"This law has led to a deterioration in the living and working conditions of sex workers, an increase in violence, but also an aggravation of this violence", reports Salomé Linglet, coordinator of the Jasmine program.

Médecins du Monde, which advocates for the total decriminalization of sex work, also denounces the "stigmatization" to which these people are subject.

"Stigmatization fueled by gender stereotypes, but also by the French political and legislative framework which is largely to the detriment of the rights of sex workers," said Salomé Linglet.
