Magdeburg (dpa / sa) - On the occasion of International Women's Day, people and organizations in Saxony-Anhalt have campaigned for gender equality.

The Corona crisis hits women particularly hard, announced the German Trade Union Federation (DGB) on Monday in Magdeburg.

The workload has increased significantly in systemically relevant professions such as food retailing, nursing or childcare and in schools.

As a symbol of the 110th Women's Day, the DGB let 110 balloons rise in several cities.

The Education and Science Union (GEW) also drew attention to the role of women in systemically relevant professions and to the private challenges in care and housework.

In addition, educators drafted their demands and handed them over to Saxony-Anhalt's Minister of Social Affairs Petra Grimm-Benne (SPD) on Monday.

In Halle, an alliance reportedly disguised statues in hospital clothing to draw attention to the precarious situation of nurses.
