Berlin (dpa / bb) - The new vaccination center in Tempelhof goes into operation today.

It is located in Hangar 4 of the former airport and is initially only supposed to be open in the afternoon.

200 corona vaccinations per day are planned for the start phase, said the spokeswoman for the vaccination centers, Regina Kneiding.

In the last of the six planned Berlin vaccination centers, the Astrazeneca vaccine is used, which is also used in the vaccination center in Tegel.

So far, it has mainly been used to vaccinate medical and nursing staff.

But it is also intended for police officers and educators.

In the Tegel vaccination center, where up to 3800 vaccinations are possible daily, the capacities have not yet been exhausted by far.

According to the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (BVG), a feeder line with two minibuses to the new vaccination center is planned.

They start at the Paradestraße underground station and should be in use every day between 12 noon and 7.30 p.m.

The free ride takes about three minutes.

If the vaccination operation is extended to two shifts from March 22nd, there should be commuter traffic from 8.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.
